The 24th Annual Boston Gay and Lesbian Film/Video Festival, May 7-18, 2008

For the seventeenth consecutive year, the MFA presents a dynamic, international roster of films exploring gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender experience and culture. This year’s festival comprises 24 programs. Highlights include:

# May 7: Men’s Opening Night: A Four Letter Word, a romantic comedy with director Casper Andreas present.
# May 8: Women’s Opening Night: The World Unseen, BU alum Shamim Sarif’s adaptation of her own novel.
# May 10: Director Raul Marchand and star Marisol Calero present with their farce Manuela y Manuel.
# May 17: A discussion with director Tiona M follows a screening of her new documentary black./womyn.:conversations with lesbians of African descent
# May 18: She’s A Boy I Knew, Gwen Haworth’s autobiographical transgender documentary.
# May 18: Closing Night Film: The Curiosity of Chance. Director Russel Marleau will be present with his John Hughes-styled high school comedy.

# May 9: Amber Sharp with her new film Don’t Go.
# May 10: Director Pilar Prassass leads a discussion after her documentary In Sickness and in Health.
# May 10: Sebastian Cordoba appears with his documentary Through Thick and Thin.
# May 15: Peter Pizzi (Sucker) and Dennis Shinners (Area X) will be present for the Men’s Shorts Program.
# May 18: A discussion on Islam and homosexuality follows Parvez Sharma’s documentary A Jihad for Love.
# May 18: Derek will be introduced by James Nadeau, Co-Director, CineMental; filmmaker; independent curator; and Technical Instructor in Film at MIT.
